Broken
This is my picture for Illustration Friday. The theme is broken. This was an odd one for me. I'm not really a political kind of guy but this was the first thought that came to my mind and I ran with it. Politics tend to make people angry and they get in the way of getting any real work done. If you want to change the world change yourself. That's my motto. Anyhow, I drew the USA and GB, colored them in photoshop and then printed them. I then tore up the USA and cut out GB. Then rescanned the whole thing with a construction paper background. Not liking the way the colors faded, I re-photoshopped most of the thing. The texture didn't turn out as well as I would have liked but I'm very happy with the way GB's hair looks. This is also the first time I have drawn a character that is suppose to be recognizable. I think GB turned out OK. It's much better detail if you click to enlarge the picture. Please tell me what you think. One more thing... Will you leave some love for me?

I think you are too dangerously close to making good art :) Love you anyway. Love

illustrated political satire; I think this is good.

Love for you, love for what you are saying, no love for w.
By LDahl, at 00:16
I leave you first some love :o)
As some people above I think that's a good idea to explain how you build your picture. Your character is recognizable yeah, but I have a question, I didn't catch the idea you explain on USA and GB, it's only a question of color ? because on the picture I don't see the point on GB ? well it could be also something I didn't understand or translate in a wrong way. I have lost some of my English so...pardon me if Iam making some mistakes :o)love

I never express political opinions either because I am quite absent of that kind of happening, but I do like illustrations and illustrators who do it.
I think yours works perfectly as a newspaper's illustration,
attention:I do not mean cartoon.
I got the idea, understood your point of view and then I may agree or desagree.Your lucky because I agree...ah ah ah
And I leave you lots of love ;-)

great illustration. I love it when artists express political views. preznit stoopid with his typically simpleminded solution to a huge problem is well portrayed here.
By Jaimie, at 05:29
I like the fact that you made the work them tore it up. Its all too easy to just stick within the computer once one has started...
Hmmm very broken and leaving out the W breaks the man even more...
and I'll leave you some love though to whom it goes is unknown...

I'm not generally a political artist either, but they say it's hard to avoid because the personal is political. You should try to have this submitted to a magazine or newspaper under your blog name (a little like the unknown soldier). It's a brave piece, but I'm not sure who would be brave enough to publish it.
serious love.
(keep this up and you will have to change that header. Lose face probably still fits the bill, but I think you really captured something with the cat hat (and nice composition.)
By Anonymous, at 06:30
nice of you to share how you did it....and nice take of the topic!
By isay , at 07:05
Your explanation of the process makes it for me -- the physical act of ripping the pieces then pasting them down again. Funny blog. My teddy bear as a kid was named Pepe (I figured you really didn't need any more responses to that one!).

The initials on GW's shirt was a nice touch and so were the boots. That blasted carpetbagger wouldn't make a pimple on a Texan's butt.
Love you and your art. Whenever I could use a smile, I always stop by for a visit knowing I'll feel better for it.
Love and kisses,
S

Yes...here is some love :>>>>>>>>> I am not very political either, but the situation we are in really disturbs me. I have very, very bad thoughts about GB... Anywhoooo, I think your illustration depicts well what many of us think the old fool is up to. Good job!
By carla, at 11:50
Its a great idea. I think maybe some spurs would have emphasised the cowboy boots but the tron up map works really well
By Alison Ashwell, at 12:34
I love the boots and the monogram. You did an excellent job of capturing that dumb ass smirk that he always seems to have.
By Tony Sarrecchia, at 15:48
This is so much better than 'cute'. I send some love your way but not to GB.

hey yeah i agree with that "change yourself" bit. definitely. a lot of people i know encourage this "CHANGE THE WORLD EXPLODE EVERYTHING" but i generally think that that particular route can lead to "bad end"

Well, what can say about your illustration?, I don't live in USA then I don't know exactly what is happening there... I just read Newsweek to know... But maybe it is not a good source...I think the best source are the citizens feelings. I can see those feelings in your illustration. Well done.
By Melissa von Nieda, at 08:52
melissa-hn: Thanks for the comments. The picture pretty much sums up the way I fell about my country right now.

Cool cartoon! Thanks for the bad art (which really isn't bad). Peace, Joe
By Joe S., at 13:35
I think GB turned out OK. Heehee, you're only saying that so this pic doesn't get you jailed for sedition! Nice spin on the theme and I dig the message. This is done just right in clean, arresting colours - I especially like the simplification of the flag to strengthen the effect.
By Ian T., at 19:08
Very creative idea. I love the process you created this art work and it suited the theme well.
By mid-life zhen, at 20:12
