Feet

This week's Illustration Friday theme is feet, but before we get to that I want to say, I'm glad this subject came up. I have been feeling guilty ever since I started this blog and now it is time to come clean. I totally stole my drawing technique from my brother, Scott. When I was about four, before I started going to school, I remember my brother coming home with a cartoon art project he had done in class. It was a drawing of some cavemen. I thought it was really neat, so I asked Scott to draw one for me. He did and I spent the rest of my day trying to copy his drawing. I have been drawing like my brother ever since. The thing a I recall most about my brother's cavemen was their feet. They looked kind of like this.
"Feet" was drawn on a scrap of multi-pupose copy paper with my beloved gel-roller, then colored in Photoshop.

Now you all know the truth. I owe my artistry to my big brother. I also owe Scott some thanks for being the responsible son. That allowed me to be the the flighty artistic one in the family. Thanks Scott. I love you bro.

  • Hi Loves-
    Speaking of feet: can anyone tell me the name of this movie I can't remember?

    I think it was made in the late 60s or early 70s. It's about an artist. (A real one I think?)

    One scene I remember is the main character and another artist (A sculptor.) take over the house of this rich guy who is out of town. The sculptor brings in an enormous slab of marble and starts sculpting this huge statue right in the foyer.

    In another scene the main artist gets students to paint this giant mural of FEET on the side of a building that is being demolished.

    That is pretty much all I remember. Oh... and I think the word Horse was somewhere in the title. Maybe?

    Anyone?

    I've been searching the web for about an hour and I can't find it.

  • hey take the art technique "inspired" by your brother and make it your own - every time you go to draw a line up go down - left go right etc. inverse your entire ccurrent style - if you consider colouring in orange - use blue - see if you can pull a Picasso out of your head - challenge yourself, don't berate yourself - you are loved

  • All perfect cartoon feet! Those first ones would work well on a troll, or even just an ordinary cartoon person. No shame in being influenced by older sibs - I can remember copying projects my sister was working on when we were kids (such as transcribing the cover of a Disney comic, square by square). As far as I know she doesn't draw any more.

    Older siblings usually go the conventional path (according to how it is determined by the parents), whereas youngers tend to not conform. Check out Frank Sulloway's Born to Rebel - most of us fit the pattern!
