Bad Art I Am Compelled To Share

Friday, March 17, 2006

This week's Illustration Friday theme is feet, but before we get to that I want to say, I'm glad this subject came up. I have been feeling guilty ever since I started this blog and now it is time to come clean. I totally stole my drawing technique from my brother, Scott. When I was about four, before I started going to school, I remember my brother coming home with a cartoon art project he had done in class. It was a drawing of some cavemen. I thought it was really neat, so I asked Scott to draw one for me. He did and I spent the rest of my day trying to copy his drawing. I have been drawing like my brother ever since. The thing a I recall most about my brother's cavemen was their feet. They looked kind of like this.
"Feet" was drawn on a scrap of multi-pupose copy paper with my beloved gel-roller, then colored in Photoshop.

Now you all know the truth. I owe my artistry to my big brother. I also owe Scott some thanks for being the responsible son. That allowed me to be the the flighty artistic one in the family. Thanks Scott. I love you bro.

I also love all you lovers out there, and because I do here is some bonus footage!
Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... ahem. God I'm funny!

Do you have a foot fetish? Do you love me?

  • I heart your feet.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 14:56

  • Those are some nicely trimmed nails for a caveman.
I believe there is a lot more of the whole world of copying going on than what most people are willing to admit...and it's not necessarily a bad thing. Who was ever the first to do anything, anyway?

By Blogger Brian the Mennonite, at 15:08

  • Nothing like a Friday confession to go into the weekend with a clear mind! Once again you've provided a great laugh. I especially enjoyed the buildup for the " bonus footage ". Super job. love

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 15:14

Well, I was the first person to ever say this, "Beajle, beajle, faur, fuar, vroot, bleeedlyfor bleedlyfor, harf."

    cocos: I do feel cleansed.

gudbrandsdottir: Wow. That's funny. The nails took me the most time because I was trying to get the color right. Thanks for noticing. :-)

By Blogger The Unknown, at 15:58

By Blogger The Unknown, at 18:08

  • Hi Loves-
Speaking of feet: can anyone tell me the name of this movie I can't remember?

I think it was made in the late 60s or early 70s. It's about an artist. (A real one I think?)

One scene I remember is the main character and another artist (A sculptor.) take over the house of this rich guy who is out of town. The sculptor brings in an enormous slab of marble and starts sculpting this huge statue right in the foyer.

In another scene the main artist gets students to paint this giant mural of FEET on the side of a building that is being demolished.

That is pretty much all I remember. Oh... and I think the word Horse was somewhere in the title. Maybe?

I've been searching the web for about an hour and I can't find it.

By Blogger The Unknown, at 18:24

By Blogger The Unknown, at 21:41

By Anonymous Anonymus Merlinprincesse, at 06:58

  • hey take the art technique "inspired" by your brother and make it your own - every time you go to draw a line up go down - left go right etc. inverse your entire ccurrent style - if you consider colouring in orange - use blue - see if you can pull a Picasso out of your head - challenge yourself, don't berate yourself - you are loved

    By Blogger kaptainkartoon, at 07:20

  • Unnggah bughah- me like dah feets and story.
"Love" the arrow man = FUNNY- perfect- says a lot.

    By Blogger AndyDoodler, at 07:33

I have never pulled a Picasso out of my head. I did pull a Picasso out of my ass once. I wish I could remember the rest of that party. :-p

    andydoodler: Aww... Thanks.

caroline: Actually my brother hasn't drawn anything in a while but he is still very crafty. He builds a lot of birdhouses and things for his yard.

Not enough meat on Lindsey's bones to interest the tiger.

    clo: Yes, yes you are!
    I'm pinning for pins.

    liz jones: Thanks!

modroom: Thanks. Umm... you're still doing the platform boots are you not?

By Blogger Princess Pepper Cloud, at 18:08

  • All perfect cartoon feet! Those first ones would work well on a troll, or even just an ordinary cartoon person. No shame in being influenced by older sibs - I can remember copying projects my sister was working on when we were kids (such as transcribing the cover of a Disney comic, square by square). As far as I know she doesn't draw any more.

Older siblings usually go the conventional path (according to how it is determined by the parents), whereas youngers tend to not conform. Check out Frank Sulloway's Born to Rebel - most of us fit the pattern!

By Blogger Ian T., at 18:12
