Bad Art I Am Compelled To Share

Saturday, January 07, 2006

This is my picture for Illustration Friday. The theme is Sea. "Sea" was drawn on a scrap of multi-purpose copy paper then colored and cleaned up in Photoshop. I have always been a vivid dreamer. The Sea is one of the prominent elements in about 80% of the dreams I remember. Somebody once told me the sea in your dreams represents knowledge.

About ten years ago I spent a month at this funky little hotel in Seoul. At the time I was doing a lot of soul searching and I had a string of wacky dreams while staying there. One dream started with Satan and me standing on a cliff overlooking the sea. Satan asked if the sea scared me. I told him it was only knowledge and there was nothing to be afraid of. So he snapped his fingers and I was suddenly out in the middle of the ocean in a tiny boat.

Satan hovered over me and laughing he said, "Are you scared now"?

"No!" I said mocking him.

Satan snapped his fingers again and the boat disappeared. "Have fun!" He laughed and vanished.

I sank to the sea floor and started walking. Eventually I reached the shore. As I walked up onto the beach the Red Hot Chili Peppers were standing there. Flea looked at me and said, "Hurry up we need a drummer."

Then they took off running down this path into the woods. I ran after them. When I got deep into the woods I dropped this crystal I had been carrying. I turned around to pick it up and when I stood up again everyone was gone. I started to panic because both ends of the trail looked the same and I couldn't remember which way I was headed. There was a giggle behind me. I whirled around and a smiley Tibetan Monk is staring at me. "What's wrong?" He asks.

"I'm lost." I reply.

"Silly boy." The monk says to me. "You're not lost you're on the path." Then he laughed and was gone.

Then I started to laugh. I was still laughing when I woke up.

I suppose there is a lot of symbolism in that dream or maybe I just had too much Kimchi before going to bed.

  • OK, you have won me over completely!!
    Love for you without reservations!
I know I should have called first but I couldn't find my phone.

    By Blogger LDahl, at 14:00

By Blogger The Unknown, at 14:37

    By Blogger Beth, at 15:07

  • Isn't that how the best converts are made:)))))))))))))

    By Blogger LDahl, at 15:21

  • And I thought I had wild dreams! BTW I thought the sea in your dreams represented the fact that you'd wet the bed. *slap*

    By Blogger andrea, at 16:18

  • I agree Satan has a unique horn(s). That's one heck of a dream and you have such a vivid recall of it. Love.

    By Anonymous Anonymous, at 16:51

  • kg: Of course it looks weird. It's a Satan package.

kimjberly: Yeah... I would love to know what your therapist thinks.

    ldahl: :-) Heh, heh.

andrea: What... wet the bed... bah. :-) Like they say Big, Big Evil... little tiny penis.

detlef: Like I said, I've always had vivid dreams. I'm not sure why.

By Blogger The Unknown, at 17:03

  • WHERE are my whiskers???? Love you anyway ... Love.

    By Blogger Anonymous, at 18:27

  • Thought Hellcat was your nightmare - she gave you a new cat name 'Balless Blunder'! Will have to talk her into thinking of something more evil to make it into your next nightmare. Love ;)

    By Blogger Anonymous, at 18:30

  • Wait... The red guy, that's you isnt't it?
    Red love.

  • I hav'nt got my IF in yet and was just gonna randomly ask if you know "Feds On The Highway" by the Baptist Generals.. then saw this dream. Awww it's so right. A lot of fear is an illusion. Mucho love for sharing that dream. And it's got the Red Hot Chilli Peppers in it.

    By Blogger modroom, at 20:11

  • everyones comments to your dream are hilarious too! especially Kimberly!!! if dreams about the sea represent knowledge than i am brilliant! tee hee!!! love your illo, love

    By Blogger ValGalArt, at 22:15

    By Blogger zordis, at 03:25

  • What an amazing dream and how well represented in your illustration. I love the sea, can understand your challenge to Saran.

    By Anonymous Paula, at 03:59

  • Great illustration and brilliant dream - I thought the sea in dreams always represented sex :-)

But of course realy it means whatever you think it means...

P.S. Word verification says mullsx - what does that mean?

    By Blogger Caroline, at 06:43

  • What a great, detailed dream...There is a guy (I wrote about him on my blog a while back, I could dig up his name if you are interested) who takes people's dreams and writes comic strips of them. It is quite brilliant! I love your illo for it, too. It is perfect.

By Blogger Alexa Brett, at 08:35

  • Fun illustration. 'Funner' text. All I remember dreaming about was not remembering my locker combination. And we had key locks in school!

    By Blogger IdiotHead, at 09:51

  • Illustration reminded me of Satan's temptations in the wilderness. But then there's that sea there... and then there's that dream there. Whoa. Cool.
    Love and peace.

    By Blogger Twisselman, at 14:10

  • dear unknown: my jungian therapist consulted with my psychopharmacologist and they both agreed that klonopin plus a low-dose ssri would be a good plan for you!

    By Blogger Beth, at 15:28

  • oh darnit! i forgot the LOVE again! i keep doing that. love.

    By Blogger Beth, at 15:40

  • sandbox: Oh you... How can you be evil when you are just soooooo CUTE!

anonymous: "Balless Blunder"?! What... I happen to have huge testicles!

merlinprincesse: The red guy is your dad. Ha, ha. Hmm... a ploy to get higher up the love ladder?

modroom: Wha... never heard of "Feds On The Highway" by the Baptist Generals. Is that a song? And thanks!

valgalart: I'm sure you are brilliant. What's funny is although I dream of the sea a lot, I would much rather be in the woods.

isay: Ah... thanks. (blush) Plenty of kimchi left in Korea. Lets meet at the Rainbow hotel. I'll buy!

zordis: Yes, evil is often quite appealing.

    paula: Thanks!

caroline: I see you have returned to your normal self. Sex! Scary! (For me in my dreams I mean!) mullsx. Hmm...

alexa brett: What a great idea! Thanks!

    idiothead: How Freudian. :-)

    twisselman: Heh, heh... thanks!

kimberly: Ah, but you didn't forget.

By Blogger The Unknown, at 17:52

    By Blogger modroom, at 18:14

  • modroom: Maybe we could mix the 2 and make Kimgerchikin. Taste like chicken smell like lobster socks.

By Blogger The Unknown, at 18:19

  • *VOMIT*

    By Blogger Anonymous, at 18:40

  • sandbox: CUTE! *vomit*

By Blogger The Unknown, at 18:50

  • I could analyize this dream with such great glee, but I won't. Your Satan is charming, though.

The last time we spoke you were telling me you might be a woman, leading me to believe you may be suffering from gender identity confusion. I was just wondering if you kept these huge testicles of yours in a jar?

By Blogger Jane Doe, at 19:16

  • VOMIT again. Love.

    By Blogger Anonymous, at 19:17

  • I thought that sex was related with dreaming of flying... maybe it's sea for man and flying for women?
Ahhhhhhhhhh! that's why I don't have huge testicles...

    By Blogger Clo, at 20:13

  • fun wicked piece!

By Blogger Alina Chau, at 21:49

  • The unknown has large balls and no penis, i on the other hand have a quite large penis and larger balls than most men i know, though i'm sure that's not very PC to say, so sorry in advance (or er i guess right after) if that's offensive to you.

I dig your version of satan and i love you <3 TigerBrooke

    By Blogger MuseTigerBrooke, at 22:01

  • an artist and a mystic...I'm jealous but loving it :)

    By Blogger Lee, at 03:29

  • And here,I thought you were going to say, "Look! He's between the devil and the deep blue sea!"

By Blogger Liz Jones, at 07:40

  • Are you sure this was a dream? Or maybe a liquor induced coma perhaps? Either way very entertaining this Monday morning. Funny that the chilli peppers were there too. Wonder what wisdom that is? ok-too many questions, non? There I go again. Love!

    By Blogger Holly, at 08:08

  • I see that your imagination is only superseded by your dreams! Also enjoyable to come here and leave a little love.

By Blogger Teri C, at 09:15

  • Wickedly cool. Great job.

By Blogger Tony Sarrecchia, at 10:55

  • jane doe: Only one of the testicles is in a jar and as to being a woman... I was only speculating about a hypothosis.

    anonymous: sweet!

clo: I thought sex was dreamy and if you fly into the sea you need a floatation device? What?

alina chau: Wicked? Me or Satan?

musetigerbroke: Hmm... see jane doe, maybe you need your testicles in a jar.

lee: Don't be jealous. I'm bad at both.

liz jones: Oh, That's great! That didn't even cross my mind. Great one more thing to analyze.

holly: I still say there is a good chance it was the kimchi.

    teri c: :-)

    tony: Thanks! :-)

By Blogger The Unknown, at 11:18

  • loving kimchi & your post. love

    By Blogger Janet, at 06:58

  • Floatation device! MWhahahaha! I AM a floatation device. And what's what? What what! What?
(Put a little elevator music, please?)

    By Blogger Janet, at 11:24

    By Blogger iLchuL, at 14:24

  • crosshatched: :-)

    toni kelly: Thanks love.

janet: It is weird how fast dreams fade. I do have quite a few I have held onto though. Even stuff from my early childhood. Hmm... Maybe I will draw one of those some day?

clo: Hey clo, I speak english only and most of the time I don't know what I'm saying. Then again, if we understood each other there would be no need to talk. :-)

carla: Thanks! Oh my... you are never too late and just leaving love is perfect!

grumpiest girl: Wow! Thanks! I like your blog and happy belated birthday! Please come again. (If only men said that more often.):-)

janet: :-) Ahh... but you didn't forget.

dawn: Yes it's true. I was soul searching in Seoul. Heh, heh... ahem. Don't read too much Freud. That will really mess you up! :-)

By Blogger Hero's Cousin, at 11:42

    By Blogger Shane, at 19:02

  • clo: People keep coming back and saying they forgot the love but if you come back and post the love that's not forgetting!
    So, nothing to forgive!

afua richardson: Thanks! :-) Is there a real difference between a naked satan and a clothed one? Other than having to look at his evil package?

hero's cousin: Hi love we missed you! Glad you liked the dream!

    shane: redrum, redrum. :-)

By Blogger The Unknown, at 14:18

    By Blogger Chandira, at 16:00
