Glamour
This is my picture for Illustration Friday. The theme is glamour. "Glamour" was drawn on the back of the June 28 page from a Get Fuzzy desk calendar then cleaned up and colored with Photoshop.
Ah glamour. Being a child of the seventies, when I hear the word glamour the first thing I think of is Glamour Rock. So, that is what I drew. A glamour rock.
David Bowie, T. Rex, Iggy Pop, Traffic (Boner!), The New York Dolls and Roxy Music were some of my favorites. I was so influenced by them that one day after school I came home and put on a bunch of my mother's makeup. Needless to say my parents were not impressed. For the next two years I was forced to play sports and received weekly lectures about the dangers of homosexuality. I find it odd that when my parents feared I might be gay they thought the best thing to do was enroll me in several activities that always ended with men showering together.
Do you love Glamour Rock? Will you love me?

Experimenting with your mom's makeup seems to have paid off. Your glamour rocks' is done to perfection.

I note there was no mention of Gary Glitter although there was mention of a Boner. At least the other glam boys have (relatively speaking) behaved themselves.
Pump up the volume and pump out the love.

Brilliant!
Perhaps your mother was more worried that you looked better than her in make-up.... at that time I always fancied the men in make-up much more than those without it...
Love
P.S. Wouldn't you be obsessed with word verification if it kept on saying things to you!
By Caroline, at 03:59
Glamour Rock rocketh - thanks for the big smile on my face right now.
I missed the 70s due to becoming a freak to two little boys, spent the time listening to all my 60s music and Sesame Street songs (being green by kermit the frog comes to mind .)

LOL LOL LOL. What a hussy that rock is! Your story reminds me of the birth scene in the "The Meaning of Life." After the mother gives birth, she asks if it's a boy or a girl. The doctor replies "I think it's a little early to start imposing roles, don't you?"
By Tony LaRocca, at 14:14

For me it is fun to reply to every comment in some way. Keeping track of everything is time consuming. I do not have an automatic system. I do however sacrifice small animals to the Lords of Time. In return for my praise they grant me "NoTime" which allows me to keep things updated without losing sleep.

I've decided to put a comment because I think it is the first time that you get so near the hundred of comment. So I will be the 98th, and also I haven't put any comment on that one yet. Not because I don't like the illo, not because I don't laugh at your text, but just because I didn't find anything intelligent to say and when it happens, I don't say anything.
And I take this opportunity to say to you that your blog is the one that makes me laugh out loud the more often. And your art, even it's very bad (and sometimes it is very, very bad) is finally very, very good because it goes to the essential, though I don't know what that is.
So probably my comment will never be in the book of art they will do on your work in fifty years, at the MOMA in a great retrospective of your art! *sigh*
By Clo, at 21:27
To help my lil'sis, I will post this 99th comment so if you answer those, you willlllll be the 100th! Yep. Hurray!
By merlinprincesse, at 10:58
clo: If I always waited until I had something intelligent to say I would never talk. Thanks for the lovely comments. When they do finally publish the art book of this blog I'll make sure this comment gets put in. I sure hope it isn't 50 years from now though. I'd like to young enough to enjoy all the glory.
Bwhahahahahahahahaha....
