Red

This is my picture for Illustration Friday the theme is red. "Red" was drawn on a piece of watercolor paper with a Faber-Castle 3-H pencil and colored in with watercolor pencils, water and a fine brush, then inked over with my Gel-Roller.

It is, in fact, a picture of my Gel-Roller. I was sitting here, thumping the desk with my pen and wondering what I was going to draw for Illustration Friday.

"What the Hell am I going to draw?" I thought to myself. "Red. The theme is red."

Thump, thump, thump.

"Red. What do I draw for red? What's red?"

Thump, thump, thump.

"What do I use everyday that's red? My hearts red. I have one red shirt. Sammy Hagar loves red."

Thump, thump, thump.

"Bah! I don’t know what to draw. I'm going to do the crossword puzzle. Where's my pen? Oh yeah, it's in my hand."

A light bulb goes on over my head.

"Oh Sweet Jesus! My pen!"

And that's how I decided what to draw for Illustration Friday.

Here's a photo of the real deal.
I love this pen. I've had this pen for seven years. This pen lasted longer than my marriage and it only cost me a buck fifty, plus the occasional ninety-nine cent ink refill.

Fuck! I should have married the pen.

Is your hindsight 20/20? Is you going to leave me some love?

  • I love rollerballs, but gel pens are always a little too light. Good luck to you & your pen!

  • Seven years with one pen has to be some kind of record. My complaint with the stores is they sell these cool pens that can be refilled... but they don't stocked the #%@*ing refills!
Anyway, peace and love to you and your red gel pen.

  • Seven years? No way!
And now, it will live on forever.

  • Wow-seven years....perhaps they should sponsor you to put all your art in a book that was created with their pen!

  • excellent work!

  • I, too, am impressed by the fact that you have had your pen for so long. Do you realize that's like 62 in gel-roller years?? You must have a well-organized drawing area. Or maybe you've just been lucky. Either way, that's a nice little drawing of it.

  • i wonder what other things things you've got that lasted that long or longer?

    nice drawing1

  • I just realized it has been months since I visited your blog. So glad to see you haven't dried up and blown away since I've been gone. (Me? A narcissist?) Your drawing skills have continued to improve -- and I love the Super Hero post. Was just about to get some coffee, but I think I'll pass... :)

  • Yea! The famous gel roller! Your partner in crime (and art)

  • "Fuck! I should have married the pen."
Fuck that's funny. I had to laugh right here in my classroom in front of my students. They asked me what was so funny. I didn't tell them. "Get your own funny" I said.

  • Really cool sketch! But, but, but... the Gel-Roller is red, but the ink is black? I think it's a good thing you didn't marry the Gel-Roller...

I made the Mensa pre-test once, I had 16/20 so I could pass the big test... I didn't... May I still come on your blog? Mmmmmmmmmmm? :O) *blink* *blink*

"Is you"? Am I pointing a mistake here? Is my english have had should improve so much in the past year?
    :O)

  • I once stuck a pen in my...........

ear.... and the tip broke off in my ear canal. When I tried to retrieve it, it somehow got pushed farther in, and long story short, I had to get it surgically removed...

    Happy Valentines Day Luva!

    nice pen, btw....

  • Of course I'll leave you some pulsing, heart-beat RED luv! What a grand pen-post, and I'm with the folks above about how I snorked coffee out my nose reading it.

A dangerously nice sketch, BTW -- you may have to change your blog-title if you keep that good art up...
